How to identify aquarium BSP threads..
BSP threads (British Standard Pipe) are the most popular of all threads. These threads come in two versions, parallel (BSPP) , and tapered (BSPT). The most common thread used on aquarium, pond plumbing and associated equipment is BSPP. To confirm the size of a BSPP thread you can use the chart below. All of the threaded plumbing on our site is BSPP.
Why is it that a thread is larger than the description? BSP stands for British Standard (imperial) Pipe and BSP threads match the size of this type of pipe. As this pipe is measured and described by the internal diameter once you have added the thickness of the pipes wall then it is larger than described. For example, a 2-inch imperial pipe will have an outside diameter of about 60mm thus a 2-inch BSP thread will measure about 59mm
